The Manfrotto 128RC Micro Fluid head is ideal for camcorders and for DSLRs shooting video with short lenses.  This head has a smooth fluid motion with pan and tilt locks. 
 
The adjustable handle can be attached to either side, and a quick release plate allows you to remove your camera with a flip of a lever.
